The South Beloit Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire on South Bluff Street on August 4th, 2019 at 12:37am. First in units encountered heavy smoke coming from the house. Upon entry, crews encountered heavy smoke and heat but not much visible fire initially. Using thermal imaging cameras the crew was able to locate fire in the walls and began extinguishing it. Mutual aid crews arrived and went to the second floor as well as the basement and encountered more fire. The initial fire was extinguished, but due to the building construction the fire traveled through the ceiling and into an exterior wall. Crews were able to quickly find these fires and put them out. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage on all floors and is uninhabitable. Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants.
One firefighter was transported to Beloit Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released for a leg injury after a portion of the floor gave way.
